Unlike many of the artists who painted the American West, Charles M. Russell did not have to pretend he was a part of it. An adventurous and rugged individual, Russell began painting as something of a visual journal of his own adventures, of the incidents he witnessed, the stories and tales he was told and for his own pleasure. His paintings are filled with cowboys, Indians and wild horses. Much of his work portrayed the Native American Indian, with whom he lived for several years. By the time Russell had begun his art, much of the so-called "Wild West" was already history. And much of what was left was rapidly being destroyed. The artistic works of Charles M. Russell help keep the mythic American Wild West from ever dying completely from our memories. This screensaver presents 30 images from Russell's works of a once wild and free land.
