Entente: English to French is a two-way, English/French conversational translator. It is meant to help you get around in a foreign country, to converse and ask questions, and get understandable replies. Instead of trying to guess the meaning of ambiguous words, Entente prompts you to choose the meaning of each ambiguous word you type (e.g. if you type I LIKE... it will beep and ask LIKE in which sense? 1. I like candy. 2. Jim is like Jane). It translates word-for-word, and does not conjugate the verb or use plurals (e.g. '3 man rob bank yesterday), so it often sounds funny, but it's understandable. Unlike phrase translators, which cover only a few stock situations, Entente lets you say anything you want, and even discuss complex subjects. Use it on your notebook when you visit France, and you can talk to the people. Or run it on your desktop to talk to French visitors. You can print the translations for informal letters, or send them as e-mail. |
